Rotary Club of Kantipur-Sushila-Kiran Pyakuryal Award, (RCK-SKP Award)

The RCK-Sushila Kiran Pyakuryal Award (RCK-SKP Award) was established in June 2023 under the
RCK-Sushila and Kiran Pyakuryal Endowment Fund for Recognition and Encouragement of Professional
School Teachers, with generous support of PP Kiran Nath Pyakuryal, Mrs. Sushila Pyakuryal and
members of the Rotary Club of Kantipur (RCK).
The annual Awards seeks to recognize/reward two excellent primary school teachers, one male and one
female, serving community schools within Kathmandu Valley or schools where RCK Urmila Vyas
Scholarships are being distributed, for their exemplary professional contributions. The Award is scheduled
for distribution either during the Club’s Charter Day celebrations or at another convenient date during the
current Rotary Year.
'Good teaching' is synonymous with reflective practice, wherein reflective practitioners think deliberately
and critically about their teaching practice, systematically reviewing and documenting their professional
growth.
Objectives of the Award:
➔ to support, at an institutional level, excellence in teaching and learning in primary education;
➔ to generate a cadre of academics who can provide inspiration and leadership in teaching and
learning in their disciplines and across the institution;
➔ to generate debate and public awareness on what constitutes primary-level teaching excellence
and stimulate the growth of professional teachers
➔ to generate an appreciation of the value of lessons learned, as opposed to only valuing success.
1. Eligibility Criteria:
➔ All primary teachers, permanent or contractual, from community schools from within Kathmandu
Valley and schools where scholarships are being distributed under the RCK Urmila Vyas
Endowment Fund.
➔ The applicant must be a Nepali national continuously serving as a primary-level teacher for at
least the past five years and also engaged in social service
2. Guidelines to Rotary Clubs/Schools Qualities we are looking for:
➔ strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
➔ Patient, approachable, and enthusiastic
highly developed critical awareness of social and individual context (both in academics and
students).
➔ applies innovative practices in addressing challenges and opportunities.
➔ active and creative in student engagement.
